What Information Does ACOI Collect?
ACOI collects two main types of information through the website noted above:
1. Aggregate Data: ACOI collects aggregate data (information and data that does not include personally identifiable information) based on all public visits to, and browsing of, the websites including:

- number of unique page visits or files downloaded
- search terms used
- average duration of visit
- type of internet browser used to access the website (e.g., Chrome)
- domain name of Internet Service Providers used to access the website (e.g.., Verizon)
- operating systems visitors use to access the website (e.g., Microsoft Windows)
Normally, web servers collect this type of basic information automatically as part of their web log processes.
ACOI also collects web user data from Google Analytics Advertising Features via Google advertising cookies, which aggregate the following non-personally identifiable demographic information:
- Age
- Gender
- Interest categories

Aggregate data are used for technical, design, and marketing purposes to better manage our systems and serve our audience, and do not provide any personally identifiable information.
2. Personally Identifiable Information: There are instances when ACOI collects personally identifiable information from its website users, usually through online forms, so they may gain access to members-only resources on ACOI’s website or register for ACOI meetings. The following are examples of situations in which we might request such information from you:
- verify membership with ACOI;
- provide access to membership content and services;
- improve or add content, usability, and functionality to our sites;
- display content, ads, and marketing;
- send informational service or marketing-related communications on ACOI activities, news, events, or products and services;
- process your payment for ACOI member dues, or an ACOI-sponsored product, service, or event;
- process and record your CME for your CME report;
- deliver and process survey requests;
- respond to your email or online request for service or feedback.
Information we may request includes, but is not limited to:
- first name and last name
- title
- academic credentials
- professional category (such as faculty, administrator, or student)
- address
- phone
Additionally, for some emails sent to recipients in HTML format by ACOI, such as its electronic newsletters, advocacy information, or alert emails, we will collect specific information regarding what the recipient does with that email. ACOI only uses this information to enhance its products and distribution of those products to its members and email recipients. For those emails, information collected through this tracking feature includes data such as:
- whether a recipient subsequently clicks through to links provided in the message
- the email address of a user
- the date and time of the user's "click"
- name of the list from which the message was sent
- tracking URL number and destination page
How Does ACOI Use Data Collected?
ACOI may use information collected in the following ways:
ACOI Member Services and Products: Generally, ACOI uses data collected to improve its own web content; to respond to visitors' interests, needs, and preferences; and to develop new products and services. ACOI does not share your data with third parties.
ACOI uses SMS/10DLC Campaign to communicate with members and other attendees at events. By providing a telephone number with ACOI, you are consenting to be contacted by SMS text message. Message & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out of further messaging. No mobile information will be shared with third parties/affiliates for marketing/promotional purposes. All other categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
Credit Card Account Information: ACOI does not disclose credit card account information provided by its members and customers. When members and customers choose to pay using their credit cards, ACOI submits the information needed to obtain payment to the appropriate financial institutions for the purpose of the intended transaction.
How Does ACOI Use Cookies?
Cookies are files that contain information created by a web server that can be stored on a user's hard disk for use either during a particular session ("per-session" cookie) or for future use ("persistent" cookie). ACOI uses cookies only to facilitate automated activity, determine appropriate solicitations, and review navigation patterns. Cookies are not used to disseminate contact information about users over the Internet or to analyze any personal or confidential information that users have knowingly or unknowingly provided.
When a user registers, the system will ask whether the user approves of the creation of a cookie. This Website is not directed toward children under 13 years of age nor does ACOI knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you are under 13, please do not submit any personally identifiable information to ACOI.

To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, we strive to maintain physical, electronic, and administrative safeguards to secure the information we collect online. This includes the use of the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) for processing purchases and donations securely; however, no transmission or electronic storage of information can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.
