ACOI is announcing two new memorial awards: The Anthony J. Malcoun, DO, MACOI Award and the David Susser, DO, MACOI Award. Submissions are open for both awards from now until August 9, 2024.
Anthony J. Malcoun, DO, MACOI Award
This award honors the legacy of Anthony J. Malcoun, DO, MACOI, who demonstrated excellence in clinical teaching in the field of nephrology. Dr. Malcoun showed outstanding compassion in the delivery of care and respect for patients, their families, and healthcare colleagues. The recipient will receive a $2,500 honorarium, presented on Friday, November 1, at ACOI 2024 in Scottsdale, Arizona, as well as a travel stipend of $1,000. The Award Recipient is requested to be present at the Awards Ceremony.
The award recognizes candidates who demonstrate/excel in the following qualities:
- Sense of compassion and care for others
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity
- Welcome opportunities for teaching and one-on-one mentorships
- Illustrate professional and ethical behavior by example
- Display concern for the community and engages in volunteer activities
- Superior knowledge and intellectual curiosity
Eligibility:
ACOI members who are nephrology fellows.
David Susser, DO, MACOI Award
This award honors the legacy of David Susser, DO, MACOI, who consistently demonstrated integrity, compassion, generosity of time and spirit, and commitment to quality in his personal and professional life. Dr. Susser was a pioneer in osteopathic internal medicine who led specialization in the internal medicine community. Dr. Susser was a true lover of the arts, humanities, and community. The recipient will receive a $10,000 honorarium, presented on Friday, November 1, at ACOI 2024 in Scottsdale, Arizona, as well as a travel stipend of $1,000. The Award Recipient is requested to be present at the Awards Ceremony.
The award recognizes candidates who demonstrate/excel in the following qualities:
- Commitment to excellence and integrity
- Sense of compassion and care for others
- Resilience and how they have overcome adversity
- Academic performance and commitment to quality
- Generosity of spirit and commitment to community and self-improvement
Eligibility:
ACOI members who are internal medicine residents or 4th year students who have matched to internal medicine.
