The ACOI joined with other osteopathic organizations to call on congressional leaders to support approval of the “Workplace Violence Prevention for Health Care and Social Service Workers Act.” The legislation would, among other things, do the following: direct the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to issue a federal healthcare workplace violence prevention standard to protect workers in health care and social services from injury and death; require employers in the health care and social service sectors to develop and implement a workplace violence prevention plan, tailored to specific workplaces and worker populations; require hospitals and skilled nursing facilities to comply with the new standard as a condition of a Medicare provider agreement; and require intergovernmental and private-sector mandates through facility compliance with the OSHA standard.
