ACOI recognizes osteopathic medical students who are outstanding members of their medical schools and communities with the Student of the Month Recognition Program.
Please join us in congratulating the August winner: Akshat Dayal, OMS-II, UNTHSC Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Student Doctor Dayal always presents himself with a smile and has established himself as a warm, welcoming figure amongst the students at Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine. In addition to being a great friend, he manages to balance the strenuous aspects of medical school in a manner that encourages all his friends to succeed together.
As a published author, Akshat portrays his dedication towards advancements in the healthcare field through research. In addition to working on a new research project, he recently got accepted to a cancer study research project in Fort Worth, Texas, where he will dedicate his summer working on the project.
Akshat has been actively involved in community service through a variety of volunteering events since the beginning of medical school. He has demonstrated a particular interest in community welfare, as he served in cleaning his surroundings, providing first aid to those in need throughout the city, and most recently, helping in the construction of a house through Habitat of Humanity.

I have lived in five different cities around the world for at least three years each, I climbed a waterfall, and I have been tutoring for eight years!
How has ACOI helped you in your education so far?
Starting medical school is a daunting task for most - the environment is drastically changed from what one was used to. The ACOI events and connections helped me tremendously in not just navigating medical school but also my interest in Internal Medicine. Through this experience I was encouraged to join SOIMA and as the current president I hope to serve as the means to guide other students the same way I was guided.
Do you have an idea of what specialty you would like to go into?
I want to go into Internal Medicine and use my time until then to explore subspecialties to find one that I can form a strong connection with in order to provide the best care I can to future patients.
