February 28, 2025

ACOI recognizes osteopathic medical students who are outstanding members of their medical schools and communities with the Student of the Month Recognition Program.

Please join us in congratulating the March winner: Asmihan Annamer, OMS-I, Baptist University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Student Doctor Annamer was nominated for her exemplary positivity in her attitude, approach, and dedication to her learning experience. She is, at all times, present, engaged, prepared, and on the mark. She is doing well academically and is participating in some leadership roles. She is always patient with the faculty and school if something does not come off perfectly, and it won't go perfectly in a first class for a new COM. She is always positive and never complains. She sets a good example for other first-year students. It is not easy being in the first class of a new med school; it takes a special attitude. She exemplifies this. She is smart, organized, and calm--all good traits for students in internal medicine.

Meet Asmihan Annamer

What is your hometown?
I was born and raised in Woodland, CA, but my family moved to Jackson, TN when I was in high school.

What is your education?
I have a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from Freed-Hardeman University. I am currently a first-year medical student at Baptist University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

What are your hobbies?
I love to bake, read, and binge shows!

What are three things people may not know about you?

  1. I have a tabby cat named Suki!
  2. My favorite flower is the sunflower.
  3. I can’t whistle.

How has ACOI helped you in your education so far?
The ACOI keeps me inspired by promoting community. It highlights students', residents', and fellows' accomplishments and research. The ACOI also provides insight for students through their ACOI Student Lecture Series. These educational sessions allow for medical students to be exposed to a variety of topics that can promote leadership and connectedness.

Do you have an idea of what specialty you would like to go into?
Currently, I am leaning towards Infectious Disease. I was first exposed to Infectious Disease as I worked as a scribe during the pandemic. This allowed me to witness the detrimental effects of COVID, including patient’s increase in susceptibility to infectious agents post-COVID infection.
