Finding Fulfillment through Growth, from ACOI and Beyond
Sometimes, it takes a breadth of knowledge to find focused, specific direction. That's been the experience Seger Morris, DO, MBA, FACOI, has had in his career, and something he’s sought to pass along to others. The Director of Health Policy Programs and Regional Assistant Dean at William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine is a third generation DO, and the 15th DO in his family. Yet his professional life has been defined by versatility from the very beginning: Dr. Morris actually started out with a degree in investment finance and spent the first years of his career in business consulting and management.

One of those is couples match, which Emily Ranta (OMS IV, Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine – Carolinas), President of the Student Osteopathic Internal Medicine Association (SOIMA), is participating in with her husband, Josh Ranta (OMS IV, Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine – Carolinas).

When it comes to health awareness, most people don't tend to think of the kidneys before, for example, the heart or lungs. And yet these hardworking organs enable so many essential metabolic regulations; Carol Kirila, DO, MACOI, deems them “just plain fascinating.” And she firmly believes everyone should pay as much attention to their kidney function as they do other processes when they visit their doctor or have lab work completed.
In December 2024, ACOI member Ryan Morgan, DO, FACOI, was appointed to the Oklahoma Advancement of Wellness Advisory Council. His term began just a month ago, in January 2025, and while it is still a bit early to know what to expect, he is hopeful it will be an opportunity to help make some positive health policy changes.
